Cooma is about 100km directly south of Canberra. Its often called the gateway to the Snowy Mountains as most people travel through Cooma to get to Thredbo and the Kosciuszko National Park.
Cooma has a population of over 8000 people. Because of the location there are a lot of facilities in Cooma that a town of this size would not normally have.
There are a large number of sports teams in Cooma for kids and adults, including squash, netball, golf, rugby, league, soccer etc. There is a swimming pool open through the summer. There are also some great mountain bike tracks in the area .
There are lots of places to eat and drink in Cooma, Pubs, Clubs, Cafes etc.
Skiing is one of the big attractions of the area. Perisher Blue and Thredo ski areas are both under 100km from Cooma. Its possible to leave Cooma at 7am and be on the snow by 8:30 at perisher in time for first tracks. Ski to midday then return to Cooma, Have lunch and start work at 2pm.
There are 4 primary schools in Cooma and a high School. There is also a private school in Jindabyne (40 min West) that is k-12
